It’s hard to believe today marks the three-year anniversary of Costa Rica closing its borders due to COVID. Little did my family know what we were in for when Taya and I picked Steve up on the last flight from California into the little country. 24 days were all it was going to be, and we had that covered since our visa had been extended.

As the world went into lockdown, my family sheltered in place in the remote jungle of Costa Rica. The choice about where we would be safe as the world around us became sick was a pivotal moment. I never could never expect what happened next. It’s extremely interesting to look back on how the Costa Rica Government handled the lockdown differently compared to the United States government.

Making History

One thing is for sure, at the beginning of all of this I never thought I would have documented and published history as I sat in the jungles and wrote in my diary about what was happening in my expat world. I documented my private thoughts and the reality of what both governments were doing and ultimately how hard it became to make it back to my home soil. It is exciting that it’s National Women's History Month and I woke up hitting the bestselling charts on Amazon for Costa Rica's history.

If you have not purchased a copy of “228 Days Trapped in Paradise: The Diary of an Expat Chica in Costa Rica,” I got you covered. It’s available in all editions: e-book, paperback, and hardcover. Make sure to order your copy today.
