Cooking with Chayote

For our chayote dish, we have a simple three-ingredient recipe with onion, garlic, and chayote.

  1. Preparation: First, remove the chayote's seed using a spoon and then chop it into bite-sized pieces. You can peel the skin if desired, but we prefer to leave it on for added vitamins. Next, chop the onions and garlic.
  2. Cooking: Coat the pan with coconut oil (which has great health benefits) and heat it up. Start by frying the onions and garlic until they begin to turn brown. Then, add the chayote pieces and continue frying.
  3. Seasoning: Enhance the flavor with your desired seasonings. We like to use garlic salt, chili powder, and sometimes, fresh thyme. Fry everything until your preferred level of crispiness and browning – it typically takes us about 6-10 minutes.

Fried Chayote

The fried chayote can be an excellent side dish to accompany chicken or beef and can even be used as a breakfast item when served with eggs. It is a versatile ingredient that is both delicious and affordable, often costing less than potatoes.

Do give our chayote recipe a try, and let us know what you think. If you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to share your experience, feel free to leave a comment. We look forward to hearing from you! Enjoy!
